Privacy Policy
Shared Shutter · Last updated October 16, 2026
Shared Shutter lets you share photos and videos with people you invite. It is built so that we, the developer, never see your photos or any information about you.
What we collect
Nothing. Shared Shutter has no servers of its own, no accounts, no analytics, no tracking and no advertising.
Where your photos go
Photos and videos you share into an album are stored in Apple's iCloud using CloudKit, in the iCloud account of the person who created the album, and are visible only to the people that person invites. Apple handles that storage under the iCloud terms and Apple's privacy policy.
Your name
The name you enter is attached to the photos you share so album members know who took them. It is stored with those photos in iCloud.
Camera, microphone and Photos
These are used only on your iPhone: to take photos and videos, to record sound with videos and Live Photos, to save the photos you take to your camera roll (as the Camera app does), and to save photos from your albums into Photos when that setting is on.
Location
If you allow it, the app adds where each photo and video was taken to the file, as the Camera app does. That location goes with the photo to the album in iCloud, so album members can see it on a map. The app reads your location only while the camera is open. Turn it off with Add location in the app's settings, or in iOS Settings. We never receive your location.
Reports and support email
If you report a photo or email us, we receive only what you send in that email (it includes the album name, the photo's ID and who shared it, which you can edit before sending). We use it only to respond.
Leaving and deleting
Members can leave an album at any time. The album's creator can remove members or delete the album, which removes it from iCloud for everyone. Copies already saved to someone's Photos library stay in that library.
Shutter Unlimited
The optional subscription is bought and managed through Apple's App Store. Apple handles payment; we receive no payment details or information about you. The app asks the App Store only whether your subscription is active.
Children
Shared Shutter is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from anyone.
